Links
These are just some websites I have found that have been helpful to me. I hope they prove helpful to you, too! Everything is free unless noted otherwise.
Games
- Theatre Lesson Plan Exchange: Warmups/Games/Improvs – This is a Geocities site, so if your school is like mine you’ll have to open it from home because it’s blocked.
Improv
- Improv Encyclopedia
- Theatre Lesson Plan Exchange: Warmups/Games/Improvs – This is a Geocities site, so if your school is like mine you’ll have to open it from home because it’s blocked.
Lessons
- Arts Toolkit
- Balance Publishing Company Free Radio Drama Kit – I just came across this and thought it looked pretty cool. It gives you a radio drama script plus an mp3 of the recorded show, along with worksheets and teaching strategies/suggestions, etc.
- Creative Drama Lesson Plans
- Kennedy Center’s ARTSEDGE
- “Lord of the Rings” Teachers’ Guide – I haven’t done anything with this yet but thought it sounded cool!
- “Lion King” Study Guide – I did some characterization projects with this where the kids created animal characters, made masks and incorporated the animals’ movements into their characters for physical expression. We didn’t actually watch all of “The Lion King,” but watched some clips of it from a documentary so they could see the costumes and everything. They thought it was really cool.
- PBS Teachers: The Arts
- Theatre Lesson Plan Exchange: Lesson Plans – This is a Geocities site, so if your school is like mine you’ll have to open it from home because it’s blocked.
Scripts
- Free Drama! Scripts – I haven’t really used any of this yet but as I was going through all the scenes the previous teacher left I found a lot of stuff from this guy… and they’re free! This is another Geocities site, so your school may block it.
Tech
- Scenery
- Google SketchUp – I have not tried this out yet, but it seems like a fun way to do set design.
- Sound
- Audacity.com – Free sound editing program
- FreeSound.org – Free sound effects (I just learned about this site, but haven’t used it yet)
- SoundSnap.com – There aren’t many free sound effects websites out there, but this one gives you 5 free effects per month, and it seems to have a good selection.
Video Resources
- Arts Toolkit
- PBS Teachers: The Arts
- YouTube – My school blocks it, but I found away around it (see “Zamzar.com” under the “Miscellaneous” category below)!
Miscellaneous
- Zamzar.com – This has been my savior. Our school’s network blocks YouTube, which is a great resource for me. This site converts files for you so you can view them at school. Just go to YouTube (from home), find the video you want, copy the URL code for the video, then head to Zamar. Click on the “Download Videos” tab, paste the code in there, choose the format you want, and put your email address in. It will email you the file, and it’s free!

Have you found anything with a photography connection?
I haven’t…. But if you find anything (or if anyone else out there knows of anything), please pass it along! Thanks!
I love the drama masks “logo.” Where did you get it? I’d like to find a photography one of some sort.
